Fashion favourite Balmain are expanding into childrenswear.
The French fashion-house revealed the exciting news with a series of posts on Instagram. Balmain’s Creative Director, Olivier Rousteing, posted nine images on his personal account, each captioned “WELCOME TO MY NEW BALMAIN KIDS #thisisthefuture #balmainkids #FashionisFun #miniBalmains #balmainlove”.
Speaking to Bustle, Rousteing revealed the collection was inspired by two-year old North West, daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, after designing bespoke pieces for the little girl. “I think I first thought about designing kidswear when I dressed North. I had a conversation with Kim, and that was the beginning of how I really understood that the Balmain universe can also belong to kids.”
The 55-piece collection, for both boys and girls ages 6-14, stays true to long-held Balmain design principles, with beautifully cut blazers, embroidered military jackets, and plenty of leather – with a helping of black tulle thrown in for good measure.
“When you see the children’s pieces, you can see the references that are actually part of the Balmain women’s and men’s wardrobes,” Rousteing said. “Balmain is also about diversity, and I think the casting and the pictures show that no matter where you come from, the Balmain army is open and all the kids from the world are a part of it.”
The collection will launch online and in stores from June, with prices from £145 for a T-shirt, to a whopping £4,150 for an embroidered dress. Get saving!
