Hint: he’s already been crowned ‘sexiest man alive’ by People magazine back in 2015. We’ll take that…
David Beckham has been named as Britain’s coolest celebrity dad, in a survey by new male grooming brand Grüum to celebrate Father’s Day this weekend. The father of four to 18-year-old Brooklyn, Romeo, 14, Cruz, 12 and Harper, five, received almost a quarter of the public vote, notably for his ever-evolving look, his ability to pull off even the most questionable of hairstyles (remember the mohawk?) and the fact he doesn’t take himself too seriously. He’s not afraid to play the role of ’embarrassing dad’ either, as we saw from his recent trolling on son Brooklyn’s Instagram.
“There’s not really a one-size-fits-all definition when it comes to being cool – it’s more about the way you look; ironic as it is, there really is nothing more uncool than someone who’s trying too hard. It’s about being effortless, and comfortable in your own skin,” says Beth Sleigh of Grüum.
Beckham was a hit among youngsters, too, with 38% of 18 to 24 year olds giving him their vote.
It was Prince William who took second place, with 7% of the overall vote. The Duke of Cambridge has certainly changed perceptions of royal fathers over the last few years with his warm and open attitude, and hands-on approach to parenting. And despite his royal status, he isn’t afraid to poke fun at himself either, recently joking about his ‘dad dancing’ in a recent interview on BBC Radio 1.
Coming in at third place was actor and dad-of-one Tom Hardy – whose coolness escalated to new heights when he gave parents a glimpse of his softer side reading night-time tales for CBeebies’ Bedtime Stories on New Year’s Eve and Mother’s Day this year.
