Become a knight this February half term at the Tower of London
Become a knight and defend the capital’s most famous fortress this February half term at the Tower of London!
Throughout February half term, head to the Tower of London to attend Knight School, where families can travel back to a medieval world of heraldry and valour on a quest to become a knight.
From manners, etiquette and entertainment, to sword-fighting and fitness, learn the essential components of a knight’s arsenal. A team of medieval servants will provide extensive schooling in entertaining Lords and Ladies with jokes and dancing, whilst the squires take charge of putting trainees through their paces, learning swordsmanship and chivalric duties. Finally, the training will culminate in a knighting ceremony, enlisting new recruits to defend the Tower and keep the great landmark safe from the marauding peasants beyond the walls.
A knight must always be prepared and kids can even have a go at making and decorating their own helmets and shields, as well as trying on the medieval fashions of the day!
The Knight School will be situated in the shadow of the White Tower, but inside the walls, get a closer look at the dazzling historic arms and armour from the internationally renowned Royal Armouries collection, with special opportunities provided over half term to see some knightly collections up close. Meanwhile the ‘Armoury in Action’ exhibition – created in partnership with the Royal Armouries, reveals the fascinating story of arms and armoury at the Tower of London from the Normans to the Victorian era.
Activities take place between 11.00 and 15:30 between the 10 – 18 February, and trails are available to visitors on site, including a map showing times and locations of activities.
Knight School is included in the Tower of London general admission ticket. Book online today to save by visiting hrp.org.uk/towerofLondon.
