Sweet Treats: Peggy Porschen Festive Afternoon Tea at The Lanesborough
Little London Editor-at-large Kate Freud took her daughter Georgia, 6, for a little festive cheer at The Lanesborough, who have teamed up with Peggy Porschen to create the ultimate afternoon tea.
If you’re looking for a little Christmas indulgence this year, look no further than the Peggy Porschen Festive Afternoon Tea at The Lanesborough. I had heard wonderful things about it, so decided to take my six-year old daughter Georgia for a very belated birthday mother-daughter treat, just the two of us.
Upon arrival at The Lanesborough we were greeted by the charming doormen who set the tone for what would be the ultimate spoiling afternoon. ‘Little Princess Georgia’ as she become known by the staff, couldn’t believe the beautiful decorations around the hotel, which felt so Christmassy with (fake) snow galore and a sense of magic in the air. We headed into the stunning glass-domed Michelin-starred Celeste restaurant, where a pianist was playing and singing festive tunes, Georgia was seated on her cushion (it’s the little touches) and the fun really started.
The festivities began with a delicious fruit cocktail, followed by our own cake stand each, hers laden with kid-friendly sandwiches, mine with a little more grown up selection including smoked salmon and Christmas turkey, stuffing and redcurrant. Scones nestled beneath a napkin on the top tier of the cake stand to keep them warm, and on the middle shelf, the most beautiful selection of festive cakes we have ever seen. Georgia’s eyes were on stalks as she looked at the little chocolate cupcakes with mini gingerbread men on top that she loved so much she couldn’t eat.

There were meringues with red currants, snowflake biscuits, mini snowmen and fresh raspberries adorning Victoria sponge. Needless to say, the whole lot got scoffed, but we truly had to pause a minute to take in all the loveliness. We walked along Sloane Street, feeling full and happy and enjoying the Christmas lights which were as spectacular as ever. And for the first time, I thought, it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
The Peggy Porschen x Lanesborough Afternoon Tea, £75 with a glass of champagne, and £30 for children is available until 4th January, peggyporschen.com.
