Review: Dobble Tea Party at Thorpe Park
As Dobble – one the UK’s most fun and fast-paced family games – launches a special residency at the thrilling Thorpe Park Resort in Surrey, Little London’s Wersha Bharadwa heads down to check out the fun…
Dobble, the fast-paced observation game where 2-8 players compete to match identical symbols on cards, is one of Asmodee’s biggest sellers along with CATAN, Bananagrams and The Pokémon Trading Card Game. It’s perfect for rainy days and Christmas Day fun for children aged six and up. Now the game has partnered up with Merlin’s Thorpe Park resort with the creation of a fun new take on the park’s classic version of a family spinning teacup ride.
The new Dobble Tea Party ride replaces one of Thorpe Parks most beloved original rides which has been in operation for over 30 years and features the board game’s classic purple hues as well as it’s instantly recognisable hand character from the game packs.

All built around a gigantic central teapot in the middle of the attraction and after selecting which one of the 12 giant tea cups you’d like to sit in, you and the kids can cosy up inside and get ready to start spinning! The newly revamped teacups all sit atop a disc-like upper platform which rotates as the ride gets underway before you and up to four others are able to control how fast your own tea cup can go round with the help of a wheel in the middle. Even more fun are the nine tea cups which spin anti-clockwise while the main platform rotates clockwise; you’re guaranteed to laugh like crazy as each person competes to take control and make the ride go faster than ever. It’s a dizzying experience for sure!
And just like the board game which involves using sharp reflexes and fast-pacing, the action packed ride – which is suitable for children who are at least 1.1 metres tall and accompanied by an adult – is super interactive too. It’s a great social ride for kids aiming to gain more confidence at theme parks and go on faster and bigger rides and helps to get their muscles and adrenaline pumping as they attempt to spin the wheel.
As part of the partnership, Dobble has created a limited Thorpe Park Resort edition of the game featuring iconic symbols of the theme park. The exclusive packs are complimentary to guests staying at Thorpe Park Resort’s on-site hotel Thorpe Shark Cabins too.

Located on its own island in Surrey and just 20 miles from central London, Thorpe Park itself is home to some of the UKs biggest, exhilarating rides and extreme rollercoasters including Stealth which travels high up into the sky at 205ft and hits upto 80 miles per hour in under two minutes. However, the park is superb at keeping under 10s engaged and delivers plenty of non-stop joys for thrill-seeking under-fives who can bravely speed through attractions such as Rocky Express, Timber Tug Boat, Mr Monkey’s Banana Ride and family friendly rollercoaster Flying Fish.

When you’re ready for a little breather, you can head down to the 4D Angry Birds cinema experience and take a seat while you watch the show. Thorpe Park is a great day out for the summer school holidays and half terms with wide ranging attractions and a play beach area where the kids can enjoy creative wet play.
With an RRP of £12.99, you can even double up the Dobble card game fun by packing the compact , travel version of the game for the car journey and choose between various special editions including Dobble Harry Potter, Star Wars, Disney Princess, Pixar and Dobble Marvel Emoji too.
